Sensory Garden
Our sensory garden, which is currently under construction, will be a specially designed space that engages and stimulates the five senses: sight, scent, sound, touch, and taste – choosing robust plants and materials that can tolerate handling and exploration. It will provide further seasonal activities for attendees to engage with and participate in, plus a rich experience for all who use it.
Designed for Exploration
Our sensory garden will feature carefully selected robust plants and materials that can withstand handling and encourage interaction. Every element has been chosen to provide a rich, multi-sensory experience:
👀 Sight – A vibrant display of colourful flowers, striking foliage, and seasonal changes to enjoy throughout the year.
👃 Scent – Fragrant plants such as lavender, rosemary, and jasmine to provide a soothing and aromatic atmosphere.
👂 Sound – Gentle wind chimes, rustling grasses, and water features to create a peaceful and immersive environment.
🖐 Touch – A variety of textured plants, from soft lamb’s ear leaves to rough bark and smooth stones.
👅 Taste – Edible plants and herbs, such as mint, strawberries, and chives, offering safe and enjoyable tasting experiences.
A Space for Growth and Connection
Our Sensory Garden will be much more than just a beautiful space—it will be a hub for engagement and wellbeing. Attendees will be able to:
✔ Take part in seasonal activities – Planting, harvesting, and tending to the garden year-round.
✔ Relax and unwind – A peaceful retreat to enjoy nature and recharge.
✔ Learn and discover – Opportunities to develop knowledge of plants, wildlife, and the environment.
✔ Socialise and connect – A welcoming space to share experiences with others.
Bringing Nature to Life
The Sensory Garden will provide a safe and inclusive environment for attendees of all abilities to engage with nature in a meaningful way. Whether it’s listening to birdsong, feeling the texture of leaves, or enjoying the scent of fresh flowers, this space will offer therapeutic benefits, encouraging mindfulness, creativity, and a deeper connection to the natural world.
We can’t wait to see our Sensory Garden flourish and become a cherished part of Oldbury Cottage Care Farm. Watch this space for updates on its progress!
